An added feature of the Guide Book is that it suggests itineraries that help cater toward maximizing your enjoyment of the Trail, given your length of stay in the Region.
The Golden Quest Discovery Trail is designed as a self-drive adventure. The entire trail, weather conditions permitting, can be undertaken in a conventional two-wheel drive vehicle. However, the Golden Quest Trails Association recommends that traveling in a four-wheel drive vehicle will enhance your adventure, for both safety and comfort.
Depending on where you're traveling from, you can enter the trail at Coolgardie (the official starting point), Kalgoorlie-Boulder (the official end point), Leonora or Laverton.
You will need to allow a minimum of three full days, with two overnight stops along the way, to fully appreciate all that is on offer. A journey of at least four days is recommended to fully appreciate the attractions along the Trail. Assuming you are commencing in Coolgardie, here is a sample of the itineraries that can be found in the Guide Book:
The trail in 3 days
- Day 1:
- Coolgardie to Kookynie (overnight stay at Kookynie)
- Day 2:
- Kookynie to Leonora (overnight stay at Leonora-Gwalia)
- Day 3:
- Leonora to Kalgoorlie-Boulder
